Kansas City Chiefs Star Found Dead by Wife at Just 37

Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Allen Bailey has died at just 37 years old after his wife reportedly discovered him unresponsive inside their Florida home.

Bailey, who spent a decade in the NFL and played alongside some of football’s biggest names, was found dead Tuesday, October 20, according to his brother, Alford Bailey Jr., who confirmed the heartbreaking news to TMZ.

The circumstances surrounding his sudden death remain unclear. Although his family believes he died of natural causes, an official cause of death has not been announced.

The unexpected loss has prompted an outpouring of tributes from former teammates and football fans who remember Bailey for his contributions both on and off the field.

Born on Sapelo Island, Georgia, Bailey rose from a small coastal community to become a standout defensive player at the University of Miami. His impressive college career caught the attention of NFL scouts, leading the Kansas City Chiefs to select him in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Bailey spent eight seasons in Kansas City, sharing the field with future Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. He became a dependable presence on the Chiefs’ defensive line, delivering one of his strongest performances in 2018 with six sacks and a defensive touchdown.

He joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2019 and played two additional seasons before his release in 2021. Over his 10-year NFL career, Bailey appeared in 133 regular-season games, made 70 starts and recorded 22 sacks.

Beyond football, Bailey was passionate about giving back to his hometown. He established the Allen Bailey Foundation to help young athletes and struggling families in coastal Georgia through educational opportunities, youth development programs and community outreach.

His charitable efforts included Thanksgiving turkey drives, school supply giveaways and programs designed to give children opportunities beyond the football field.

Bailey’s death has also brought renewed attention to his journey from a small Georgia island to the NFL, where he built a career lasting a decade.

For those who knew him as a teammate, mentor and community supporter, his legacy extends far beyond his accomplishments on the field.

As of Wednesday, October 21, further details surrounding his death had not been publicly confirmed.
