Pat Sajak Makes Shocking Political Announcement

Former Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak has left fans scratching their heads after making an unexpected political announcement on social media, only to reverse his position hours later without explaining what he was talking about.

Sajak, 79, sparked the conversation over the weekend when he appeared to break his longstanding practice of avoiding public political endorsements.

In a message posted to X on Saturday, October 17, the beloved television personality suggested he had finally decided to take a stand on an important issue.

“I’ve never publicly endorsed a political candidate nor commented on a ballot measure, but enough is enough,” Sajak wrote. “I’m voting ‘NO.’ Please join me.”

The announcement immediately caught followers’ attention, particularly because Sajak failed to identify the candidate, proposal or ballot measure he was supposedly opposing.

Some fans initially wondered whether the former game show host was preparing to weigh in on the upcoming November midterm elections.

Others quickly recognized the possibility that Sajak was simply having some fun with the politically charged atmosphere.

But the mystery took another unexpected turn when Sajak returned to X with a brief follow-up.

“I’m sorry. I meant YES,” he wrote.

The sudden reversal only added to the confusion, with Sajak offering no explanation for his change of position or revealing what issue he was discussing.

His followers responded with a mixture of laughter, sarcasm and frustration.

One person joked that they were voting “PERHAPS,” while another suggested writing in “Maybe.”

Other fans incorporated references to Sajak’s decades hosting Wheel of Fortune.

“Can I buy a ‘No’ for?” one person asked.

Another reminded the former host that contestants would normally have to purchase the vowel in his announcement.

Not everyone appreciated the humor, however.

Some commenters criticized Sajak for posting what they considered a meaningless political statement, while others encouraged him to share his actual beliefs now that he was no longer hosting one of television’s most recognizable game shows.

The exchange appeared to be another example of Sajak’s dry humor rather than a serious endorsement of a particular political position.

In fact, he pulled a similar stunt during the 2024 presidential election.

On Election Day that year, Sajak announced that he would break his tradition of withholding presidential endorsements and reveal his preferred candidate the following Friday.

The catch was that Friday fell after the election, making the promised announcement largely irrelevant to voters.

Although his latest remarks drew some criticism, Sajak has never been entirely disconnected from political discussions.

The former television host has occasionally shared political observations and commentary over the years, even while generally avoiding formal candidate endorsements.

His latest posts also arrived as another prominent game show personality, Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings, attracted attention for appearing in a political advertisement criticizing tax breaks benefiting millionaires.

Sajak retired from Wheel of Fortune in June 2024 after more than four decades behind the famous puzzle board.

His departure marked the end of an era for the syndicated game show, which he helped turn into one of America’s most enduring television programs.

Ryan Seacrest subsequently took over hosting duties alongside longtime letter-turner Vanna White, who remained with the series following Sajak’s retirement.

Since leaving the show, Sajak has maintained a relatively low public profile, making occasional appearances and sharing updates on social media.

Earlier this month, he appeared at a Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony honoring the soft rock duo Air Supply, longtime friends of Sajak and his wife, Lesly Brown.

Despite stepping away from television, Sajak clearly hasn’t lost his ability to get people talking.

And while some fans are still wondering what prompted his mysterious political declaration, others believe the joke was never about an actual election issue at all.

For now, the former Wheel of Fortune host has left followers with a familiar puzzle to solve, except this time, he isn’t offering any letters to help them figure it out.
