“The Pioneer Woman” star Ree Drummond’s foster son, Jamar Goff, has been arrested in Alabama on a string of serious charges after an bizarre early-morning encounter with police.
Goff, 23, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham at about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 15.
He faces charges of second-degree assault on a police officer, attempting to elude, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
His total bond was set at $37,000.
According to court documents, the trouble began when a University of Alabama at Birmingham police officer responded to a report of a suspicious person on campus.
The officer allegedly found Goff shirtless and asleep near a fountain.
When he was awakened and questioned about what he was doing there, Goff allegedly told the officer he was waiting for someone to bring him “ice,” a street term commonly used for methamphetamine.
The officer initially told him to leave the area.
But the situation quickly escalated after police allegedly discovered that Goff had an outstanding warrant.
An officer later located Goff again and attempted to take him into custody.
Instead, Goff allegedly ran.
Court documents say the chase eventually led to a local hospital, where Goff is accused of striking an officer with an open hand.
Police then searched Goff and his belongings.
Officers allegedly found a glass pipe inside his backpack and approximately 1.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine on his person.
Jail records list separate bonds of $10,000 for the assault charge, $6,000 for attempting to elude, $6,000 for the controlled-substance charge and $15,000 for the drug-paraphernalia count.
As of Sept. 23, Goff remained in custody, according to court records.
It was not immediately clear whether he had retained an attorney.
The arrest has drawn national attention because of Goff’s close connection to Ree Drummond, the Food Network personality best known as “The Pioneer Woman.”
Ree and her husband, Ladd Drummond, took Goff into their Oklahoma household in 2018 when he was a teenager.
Ree has previously written about how he quickly became part of the family.
In her book “Frontier Follies,” she recalled that Goff suffered a serious foot injury in an ATV accident shortly after joining the household, an experience she said brought the family closer together.
She has also spoken warmly about him publicly over the years.
For Goff’s 21st birthday in 2023, Drummond posted an affectionate tribute saying she was excited to see what his future held and that she believed it would be filled with “good things.”
The newly filed court documents paint a much more troubling picture of Goff’s current circumstances.
One document reportedly lists him as homeless.
Ree Drummond has not publicly commented on the arrest.
Goff has not been convicted of any of the charges, and the allegations against him remain to be proven in court.
