Meghan Markle is facing a fresh privacy and security headache after her personal cellphone number was reportedly exposed through a parents’ WhatsApp group connected to her children’s school.
The Duchess of Sussex, 45, had joined the group shortly before Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, began classes at their original school in Britain.
A screenshot of the chat showed parents welcoming Meghan to the group before she responded with a friendly message thanking them for the warm reception.
But the screenshot was later shared outside the private chat, reportedly exposing the phone number associated with Meghan’s WhatsApp account in the process.
The incident has raised obvious security concerns given the extraordinary level of public attention surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children.
RadarOnline reported that Meghan was subsequently given a stern warning by her private security team about sharing personal contact details in situations where screenshots could be circulated.
That specific warning has not been independently confirmed, however, and Radar attributed the claim to an unnamed source familiar with the situation.
The phone-number leak comes during an already complicated start to the school year for Archie and Lilibet.
Harry and Meghan pulled the children out of their original British school only days into the term after their private security team raised concerns about the daily commute.
A spokesperson for the couple confirmed that the decision followed discussions with their security advisers and stressed that the move was not a reflection on the school or its staff.
According to ITV News, security concerns included the amount of time the children could spend sitting in heavy traffic, whether the family’s vehicle and the car carrying their security personnel could remain together and the risks associated with traveling the same route every day.
During one school run, the vehicles reportedly became separated in traffic, highlighting the practical concerns that eventually led the Sussexes to move Archie and Lilibet to another school.
The children began attending their new school this week.
The timing is particularly notable because Harry’s official security arrangements in Britain are once again under review.
ITV News reported that the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, better known as RAVEC, has begun a fresh assessment following the family’s return to live in the United Kingdom.
Harry has spent years challenging changes made to his police protection after he and Meghan stopped working as senior members of the royal family.
In May 2025, Britain’s Court of Appeal rejected his challenge to the security arrangements applied to him during visits to the United Kingdom. The court records show that the dispute centered on RAVEC’s decision that Harry would no longer automatically receive the same level of publicly funded police protection after his royal status changed.
The latest review does not automatically mean that full-time taxpayer-funded police protection will be restored. Instead, officials are reassessing the family’s circumstances following their move back to Britain.
Despite the renewed attention on the family’s security, Meghan has continued sharing carefully selected glimpses of their life on social media.
On Sept. 15, she posted a birthday tribute to Harry as he turned 42, sharing previously unseen family photos and clips involving Archie and Lilibet.

The post included images of Harry skiing with Lilibet, spending time outdoors with his children and sharing private moments with Meghan.
The WhatsApp incident is another reminder of the unusual privacy challenges surrounding the Sussex family: even an ordinary school-parent group chat can become public news once a screenshot leaves the group.
Neither Meghan nor her representatives have publicly detailed whether she changed her phone number following the reported leak.
