Meghan Markle’s much-hyped return to acting may have hit a major roadblock before cameras even started rolling.

The Duchess of Sussex had reportedly been in talks for a role in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix crime series The Gentlemen — a casting move that would have marked her biggest return to scripted television since leaving Suits nearly a decade ago.

But according to veteran royal journalist Tina Brown, the deal has now been pulled after the possibility of Meghan joining the show triggered a fierce backlash in Britain.

Brown claimed Saturday that she had learned Meghan’s proposed casting was no longer moving forward.

“I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn,” Brown wrote in her Fresh Hell Substack.

She added that the negative reaction in the U.K. had allegedly become so overwhelming that moving forward with Meghan was no longer considered workable.

“This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the U.K.,” Brown wrote.

The stunning claim comes as Meghan, 45, and Prince Harry, 41, are reportedly preparing to relocate their family from California back to Britain.

Brown had previously reported that the potential Gentlemen role was one of the major reasons behind the Sussexes’ planned move.

If true, losing the part could deliver an embarrassing blow to Meghan’s attempt to restart her acting career.

The former actress became a household name playing Rachel Zane on the legal drama Suits before leaving the show in 2017 ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry.

Since then, Meghan has largely stayed away from traditional acting roles, instead appearing in documentaries, reality-style projects and programs centered around her life and interests.

She has also reportedly filmed a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends.

The Gentlemen, meanwhile, has become one of Netflix’s splashier crime series, starring Theo James and based on Ritchie’s 2019 gangster movie of the same name.

Season two is scheduled to premiere Sept. 3.

Netflix has not officially announced a third season, although Ritchie was reportedly already developing another installment — including a role allegedly designed specifically for Meghan.

News of her possible involvement immediately sparked intense reaction online.

Critics flooded comment sections and social media with complaints, with some viewers threatening to boycott the series if Meghan appeared.

One especially harsh critic on X claimed that projects connected to Meghan inevitably ended badly and accused her of having little genuine talent outside of attracting attention.

Meghan has long remained a deeply polarizing figure in Britain.

Her relationship with the royal family, blockbuster interviews about palace life and decision to leave full-time royal duties with Harry have kept her at the center of controversy for years.

But the latest twist may not be the final word.

The Sun on Sunday reported that if Meghan does eventually land a role on The Gentlemen, she could command a staggering paycheck of more than £1 million — roughly $1.36 million.

A source quoted by the newspaper claimed signing Meghan would be considered a major publicity win for the show and could justify the massive fee.

For now, however, the status of the alleged deal remains unclear.

Representatives for Meghan, Guy Ritchie and Netflix had not publicly responded to requests for comment.

If Brown’s report is accurate, Meghan’s long-awaited acting comeback may have suffered a humiliating setback before it even began.
