An ESPN reporter expecting to talk football suddenly found herself battling an unexpected opponent at Los Angeles Rams training camp — and this one had wings.
Reporter Lindsey Thiry was preparing to go live from the Rams’ practice at Loyola Marymount University on Thursday when a massive flying beetle swooped into the shot and sent her scrambling.

Forget the bruising NFL players roaming the field. For a few frantic seconds, the bug appeared to be the biggest threat at camp.
Video from the moment shows Thiry initially trying to swat the insect away with her hand. But the determined beetle kept coming, buzzing around her head and refusing to leave her alone.
That’s when Thiry turned her ESPN microphone into an emergency bug-fighting weapon.
She repeatedly swung at the airborne intruder as it darted around her hair before finally managing to knock it to the ground.
Crisis averted.
Thiry quickly recovered and delivered her Rams report without another interruption, but her colleagues back in the studio weren’t about to let the bizarre moment disappear.
ESPN host Molly McGrath later replayed the hilarious showdown for viewers.
“What is that?” McGrath asked while watching the footage. “A wasp?”
Thiry said the creature was “the biggest bug I’ve ever seen” and jokingly gave herself credit for the “hand-eye coordination” required to win the battle.
The wild encounter is just the latest example of a Los Angeles reporter being ambushed by nature while trying to do a live shot.
In July, KTLA reporter Rachel Menitoff had her own on-camera nightmare when a flying cockroach interrupted her report.
For Thiry, at least, the unexpected matchup ended with the ESPN reporter still standing — and the beetle knocked out of the broadcast.
