A routine trip to Walmart ended in bloodshed when a fight over a parking space reportedly led to the fatal shooting of a decorated Army veteran in broad daylight.
Bart Diguglielmo, 62, was shot outside a Walmart Supercenter in North Lauderdale, Florida, shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said Diguglielmo and an unidentified woman became involved in a heated verbal argument over a parking spot before the confrontation suddenly turned deadly.
Disturbing video shared on social media appears to show the woman stepping out of her vehicle while holding a gun. Diguglielmo, wearing a gray shirt, can be seen approaching her as the pair angrily point at one another.
At one point, Diguglielmo raises both arms into the air as they stand inside an empty parking space.
The confrontation continues around another parked vehicle, with the woman allegedly aiming the weapon at Diguglielmo as he follows her.
Moments later, a single gunshot rings out.
Diguglielmo collapses to the pavement as horrified shoppers look on.
Emergency crews rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. He was later pronounced dead.
The woman remained at the scene and reportedly told investigators that she fired in self-defense.
Witness David Anderson said he heard the woman screaming as police began investigating the chaotic scene.
“I was walking up and heard a lady screaming,” Anderson told CBS News Miami. “She was screaming and she was saying a lot of things.”
Diguglielmo was a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and a decorated veteran of Operation Desert Storm, according to his grieving sister.
A native of Hammonton, New Jersey, he served as a combat nurse, combat medic and tactical communications expert, according to his Facebook profile.
“He was a Christian man and a very good person and would not hurt anyone,” his sister said.
Diguglielmo had been living in Lauderhill, Florida, and was also a retired nurse.
Authorities have not released the woman’s name, and no charges have been announced.
The Broward County State Attorney’s Office will review the evidence and determine whether the shooting was legally justified or whether criminal charges should be filed.

That was not self defense. It was murder and that lying bitch should be prosecuted and sent to jail.
I have friends who will not go near a Walmart for these exact reasons. I always thought they were over reacting.
Guess not!
Terrible tragedy.
