Father and Daughter Shot Outside Florida McDonald’s

A father and his 11-year-old daughter were rushed to the hospital after they were caught in a terrifying burst of gunfire outside a Florida McDonald’s — while the girl’s mother was just steps away inside picking up the family’s food.

The nightmare erupted around 1:30 p.m. on June 27 in the parking lot of a McDonald’s in Hallandale Beach, where the family had been waiting in a black SUV when bullets suddenly tore through the area, police said.

The shooting was not even meant for them.

Instead, authorities said the father and child were innocent bystanders who were struck in the middle of a violent dispute that exploded outside the fast-food restaurant.

“We had two innocent bystanders involved in a situation that had nothing to do with them,” Hallandale Beach Police Capt. Megan Jones said, according to CBS News.

The man’s wife had gone inside the McDonald’s to pick up their order when the shots rang out. Seconds later, she ran back outside and found the unthinkable: her husband and young daughter had both been shot.

“As soon as she heard gunshots she ran back outside to see if her family was involved and discovered that her husband and her child had been shot,” Jones told NBC6.

Photos from the crime scene showed a bullet hole in the back window of a vehicle — a chilling sign of how quickly an ordinary lunch stop turned into a scene of panic and bloodshed.

The father and daughter, whose names have not been released, were taken to the hospital. Both were listed in stable condition.

Police said the people involved in the shooting ran off before officers got there. Investigators are now searching for multiple suspects, and authorities believe one of the individuals involved may have been a McDonald’s employee.

“The suspects fled before officers arrived. Detectives are actively working to identify and apprehend everyone responsible,” the Hallandale Beach Police Department said in a statement.

Police said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident tied to a dispute between the people involved. They said there is no sign of an ongoing threat to the public.

Still, for one family, the damage was already done.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time,” the department said. “No one should have to endure what they experienced today, and we remain committed to identifying those responsible and holding them accountable.”

One witness told NBC6 he heard only two gunshots before the parking lot was swarmed by police.

“It was just two gun shots. All I saw was the police swarmed the place up. The suspect took off running,” the witness said.

“I don’t wanna be nowhere near that,” he added.

Brad Ashlin, the owner and operator of the Hallandale Beach McDonald’s, said the restaurant was devastated by the violence and is cooperating with police.

“We are devastated by the shooting that occurred outside our restaurant this past weekend,” Ashlin said in a statement to The Independent. “Our thoughts are with the father and young daughter who were injured, as well as their family during this difficult time.”

Ashlin said the person reported to be involved is “no longer employed” by the organization.

“We will continue to support the Hallandale Beach Police Department, including providing surveillance footage and any assistance needed for their investigation,” he said.

Police have not released a description of the suspects. Anyone with information or video from the shooting is being urged to contact Hallandale Beach Police or Broward Crime Stoppers.
