A terrifying scene unfolded in Sri Lanka on Tuesday when a massive elephant attacked a bus and left the vehicle completely wrecked.
Shocking video posted by the BBC shows the elephant storming up to the front of the bus before smashing through the windshield with its trunk and tusks. Glass shattered across the front of the vehicle as the impact appeared to set off the bus’s horn, adding to the chaos.
The animal then moved along the left side of the bus and began hammering at the doors with its tusks. Inside, several air force personnel wearing white shirts could be seen filming the frightening encounter as the elephant continued its attack.
Despite the damage, no injuries have been reported.
While the video stunned viewers online, violent run-ins between people and elephants are a serious and growing problem in Sri Lanka. Human-wildlife conflict has become increasingly deadly as animals and communities are forced to compete for land, food and resources.
According to The Guardian, 176 people and 470 elephants died in Sri Lanka in 2023 alone because of human-elephant conflict, making the island nation one of the most dangerous places in the world for these encounters.
Experts have blamed the crisis on shrinking habitats, deforestation and the effects of climate change, which have pushed elephants closer to villages, roads and farmland.
For the people trapped inside that bus, the terrifying attack was another reminder that in parts of Sri Lanka, a routine trip can turn into a life-or-death wildlife encounter in seconds.

Thank God that no one got injured🙏🙏🙏
