Savannah Guthrie has been noticeably missing from the Today show this week, leaving viewers wondering where the longtime morning TV anchor disappeared to.

The 54-year-old NBC star was absent from the Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, broadcasts of the hit morning show. At first, her co-anchors simply told viewers that Guthrie was “on assignment.”

But by Thursday, Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones gave fans a little more information about what was really going on.

“Savannah starts production meetings on the Wordle game show coming to NBC,” Melvin explained on air.

Jones chimed in with excitement, saying, “It’s coming! Yeah, I’m excited for her.”

The explanation came after Guthrie had sparked questions by being off the anchor desk for two days in a row. Jones also joked that maybe Guthrie was somewhere in the huge crowd flooding New York City streets for the Knicks’ victory parade.

But according to PEOPLE, Guthrie is expected to return to Today on Monday.

Guthrie has not exactly been hiding. The beloved anchor shared updates from Los Angeles on her Instagram Story, giving fans a peek at what she has been working on.

One photo showed a Wordle sign with the caption “Coming soon.” Another showed her own Wordle nameplate, complete with her initials.

In May, Guthrie announced she would host NBC’s new Wordle game show, which is being produced in partnership with The New York Times.

While in Los Angeles, Guthrie also caught up with her Today show colleague Carson Daly, 52. She posted a photo with Daly on the set of The Voice, writing, “When in LA see your bestie @carsondaly.”

Guthrie, who has called herself a huge fan of The Voice, also posed in one of the show’s famous big red chairs and joked that she was “in @carsondaly’s house.”

Her latest Today absence comes after a difficult and emotional year for the NBC anchor.

Guthrie returned to the morning show in April following an extended leave amid the investigation into the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie.

Nancy, 84, was allegedly taken from her Tucson, Arizona, home in the early morning hours of Feb. 1. Authorities reportedly uncovered doorbell camera footage of a masked intruder on the property, but no suspects have been named.

Guthrie previously revealed that her new Wordle hosting gig had been delayed after the family crisis.

“We’ve been working on this for a really long time, and actually we just found out in February that we got picked up and we were supposed to shoot in March,” she said at the time.

She also thanked NBC, Jimmy Fallon’s production company, The New York Times, Universal and others for putting the project on hold while she dealt with the heartbreaking situation involving her family.

“When everything happened with me and my family, they just stopped everything and said, ‘We’ll wait for you,’” Guthrie said. “And Hollywood is a really tough business, and I didn’t expect that, and I just want to say thank you. It means so much to me.”

Guthrie has also spoken openly about the emotional toll her mother’s disappearance has taken on her.

While appearing on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, she told Jenna Bush Hager that the pain is always with her, even as she continues returning to work and trying to be present for her children.

“It’s always with me,” Guthrie said. “I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home.”

She added that she is grateful to have supportive friends and a joyful workplace to return to during such a devastating time.

“Like so many people out there, you can hold all of these things together,” she said. “I try to tell my kids that too. We can hold our sadness and we can hold our joy. And if you don’t believe it, just watch me.”

Last week, volunteers in Mexico reportedly searched for Nancy Guthrie after receiving a tip that she may have been buried near the U.S.-Mexico border. No new developments from that search have been announced.

For now, Guthrie’s latest Today absence appears to be work-related, not another extended leave. Fans can expect to see her back behind the anchor desk on Monday.
