Jason Derulo is facing fierce backlash after showing off a bizarre floor aquarium inside his California mansion that appears to hold sharks and a ray.
The 36-year-old singer was ripped online this week after a clip of him giving Kick streamer N3on a look at the unusual setup made the rounds on Reddit. The video showed the animals swimming beneath a glass floor inside Derulo’s Tarzana home, and many viewers were horrified.

Critics quickly accused the “Savage Love” singer of treating living creatures like a flashy decoration.
“There is absolutely no reason to do this,” one commenter wrote. “I hate celebrities that treat animals like a shiny toy they want to show off. He needs to be reported.”
Another person blasted the display as something that “should absolutely be illegal,” saying Derulo had “the audacity to show it off.”
Others called the setup “evil” and compared the singer to an “off-brand Bond villain” for keeping the animals in what they claimed looked like a cramped and unnatural space.
The outrage only grew as more users pointed out that the aquarium appeared to lack hiding places, natural enrichment, or any features that would make it resemble a proper marine habitat.
“There’s not even anything enriching in there,” one commenter wrote. “My childhood goldfish had a better setup.”
Another person claimed they spotted multiple sharks and stingrays in the tank, writing, “Sharks. Multiple. In a kiddie size swimming pool. Also stingrays. Terrible look.”
One furious user called the aquarium “the ultimate dick move,” adding, “That’s a living creature, not a decoration.”
Several critics said they believed people often dismiss the suffering of aquatic animals because they are “just fish,” but argued that the setup looked cruel no matter how glamorous the mansion may be.
“He could have a little robot fish in there or just a visual effect, for the exact same look,” one commenter wrote. “The cruelty is the only addition.”
Derulo has previously talked about wanting a shark tank inside his home. During a 2025 interview with Graham Bensinger, he said he had “always wanted to have a shark tank” and came up with the idea of building a large one into the floor.
He also described the animals inside the tank, saying there was a shark and a stingray. The singer added that the tank once had more fish, but the shark did not exactly play nice with its tankmates.
“The shark, they don’t want to coexist,” Derulo said at the time. “They want to eat them, so they ate all the fish.”
That comment is now getting fresh attention as critics slam the star for proudly showing off the unusual home feature.
Representatives for Derulo have not publicly responded to the backlash.
