Golf Legend’s Wife Rushed to Hospital After Dog Attack

Golf great Mark Calcavecchia revealed his wife was rushed to the hospital after a terrifying late-night attack by the couple’s own family dog.

The former Open Championship winner shared the disturbing news on X Tuesday night, posting a graphic photo of his wife, Brenda, lying in a hospital bed with deep cuts on her face.

“Well s—,” Calcavecchia wrote just before 9 p.m., explaining that the couple’s Jack Russell Terrier, Lucie, suddenly bit Brenda as they were getting ready for bed.

“Our cray cray Jack Russell Lucie decided to take a bite outta @brendacalc face at zzzz time,” he wrote. “Unexpected trip to Brevard hospital for stitches. Not good.”

The image showed Brenda in a hospital bed as doctors treated the injuries to her face. Calcavecchia did not say exactly what triggered the attack or how many stitches she needed.

It was also unclear what happened to the dog after the frightening incident.

The shocking hospital scare comes not long after Calcavecchia made headlines for a very different reason at Augusta National Golf Club.

The 65-year-old golf veteran was reportedly removed from the grounds during The Masters after violating the club’s famously strict no-phone policy. Calcavecchia, who played Augusta 18 times during his career, had been attending the tournament as an honorary invitee.

When Golfweek contacted him about the incident, Calcavecchia reportedly said he had “nothing negative to say about Augusta National Golf Club and The Masters” before ending the call.

Calcavecchia remains one of America’s best-known golf names, with 13 PGA Tour victories and a career that included one unforgettable major championship win.

His biggest triumph came in 1989, when he captured the Open Championship at Royal Troon after defeating Greg Norman and Wayne Grady in a playoff.

Now competing on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, Calcavecchia has long described himself as a devoted dog dad. But this week, his family pet left his wife needing emergency medical treatment after what appeared to be a sudden and brutal bite.
