Christian TV icon James Robison has died at the age of 82, leaving millions of loyal followers mourning the loss of one of America’s most recognizable televangelists.
The longtime LIFE Today host passed away after decades spent preaching the Gospel to audiences around the world, with his ministry claiming his message reached more than one billion people over the years.
His death was confirmed by LIFE Outreach International in an emotional statement honoring the beloved pastor’s lifelong devotion to faith and charity.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Rev. James Robison, the beloved founder of Life Outreach International,” the organization announced.
“James devoted his life to sharing the Gospel and bringing hope, help, and healing to those in need around the world.”
No cause of death has been revealed.
Robison became a household name in Christian television after launching his ministry career back in 1968. Alongside his wife Betty, he later became the face of LIFE Today, one of the most watched Christian programs in America.
Over the years, the Texas-born preacher built a massive following through his television appearances, books, and worldwide outreach missions. His ministry said he preached in more than 600 cities during his lifetime while also helping fund humanitarian projects across the globe.
Fans flooded social media with tributes following the heartbreaking news.
Commentator Chad Prather wrote: “I was absolutely heartbroken this morning to hear of the passing of my dear friend, evangelist James Robison. What an impact he made for the Kingdom in millions of lives.”
Others remembered the televangelist for his charity work and decades-long marriage to wife Betty.
“Love James Robison. Partnered in Life Today Ministry for years to build wells. He will be sorely missed,” one supporter shared online.
Robison’s life wasn’t without tragedy. In 2012, he and Betty suffered a devastating loss when one of their daughters died from throat cancer.
Still, the preacher continued his ministry work and remained active in Christian broadcasting for years afterward. In 2015, he also launched the Christian news platform The Stream.
The couple shared three children together and later welcomed 11 grandchildren.
The ministry ended its emotional tribute with a Bible verse many supporters felt perfectly summed up Robison’s legacy: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Oh Well, life goes on.
