Whoopi Goldberg is facing a firestorm after making a jaw-dropping comment on live television that critics say crossed the line even for The View.
The longtime daytime host set social media ablaze after declaring America has been “de-balled” during a heated discussion about President Donald Trump and rising tensions involving Iran — and the backlash exploded almost instantly.
What started as another political debate on The View quickly turned into one of the show’s most viral moments of the year.
Goldberg, clearly frustrated during the segment, unloaded on the current state of the country and admitted she has little confidence in the people running it.
“I have no faith in the people running anything,” Goldberg said. “I don’t believe in anybody running this country right now and that’s what makes me nervous.”
But it was her shocking follow-up line that really sent viewers over the edge.
“We have been de-balled as a nation, I feel,” she declared on-air, leaving some co-hosts visibly stunned.
Within minutes, clips of the moment were circulating across X, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook, with viewers fiercely divided over whether Goldberg had gone too far or was simply saying what many Americans are feeling.
Critics wasted no time slamming the actress and comedian over her language.
“There is no room for Whoopi’s outrage and vulgarities on television,” communication and human behavior expert Dr. Lillian Glass said after the clip went viral. “People have been thrown off the air for lesser rhetoric and she needs to be off the air.”
Glass accused Goldberg of pushing things too far with what she described as a “hateful and vulgar comment.”
Others, however, argued the controversy was exactly the kind of moment modern television thrives on.
Media strategist Aaron Evans said daytime TV in 2026 is no longer just about what airs live — it’s about what becomes a viral clip afterward.
“That 12-second sound bite becomes the headline,” Evans explained. “Hosts are paid to be provocative.”
Public relations expert Amore Philip agreed, saying Goldberg’s remark was practically designed to dominate social media.
“The View has understood for years that provocation is its product,” Philip said. “Whoopi Goldberg saying the country has been de-balled on daytime television is exactly the kind of line that gets clipped, posted, and debated across every platform before the episode even finishes airing.”
Philip added that comments like Goldberg’s work because they are “visceral, visual, and impossible to take back.”
Love her or hate her, Goldberg once again proved she knows how to command attention — and in today’s media world, that may matter more than anything else.

Personally if thats what it takes to get attention then I would prefer to be silent.
“It is best to remain silent than open one’s mouth and remove all doubt”.
Whoppi should be taken off the air. It’s about time to get rid of her.
Oh, there is very well a person running the Country right now. And what is more is that it is going in the right direction!!! The whole problem is that the Country had no leader at all from the 2020 “steal” until January of 2025! A whole lot of auto-signatures though!!!
Trump is a Communist. He sold out Ukraine 🇺🇦. He sold out Taiwan 🇹🇼. He sold out America. Communist.
We have a Congress who cannot agree on anything and who refuse to use the powers they have to take a President to task. Our country is being run by a man who loves gold and trophies and ballrooms and statues and praise and listens to the last person who tells him something. Four members of his team have been fired/left, two more will be gone soon, we are in a war that never should have happened and Congress does nothing. What was the words Whoopie used?
This is uncalled for! If I didn’t have class I would really say what I think. Right now if I have a vote she should be gone this isn’t the first time she’s said vulgar and WRONG things!
