Mass Stabbing Attack at Michigan Walmart Injures 11

A routine Saturday afternoon erupted into bloodshed at a Walmart in northern Michigan after a man allegedly launched a knife attack inside the crowded store, leaving at least 11 people injured, some critically.

The rampage unfolded just before 5 p.m. local time at the Walmart Supercenter in Traverse City, a normally quiet lakeside community 250 miles northwest of Detroit. Shoppers described scenes of “pure panic” as screams rang out and people ran for their lives.

“There was blood near the checkout lanes. I saw one woman clutching her side, and another man collapsed near the pharmacy,” said witness Angela Morris, who was shopping with her 7-year-old daughter. “It felt like a war zone.”

Emergency crews from multiple agencies, including the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police, rushed to the scene. The area was quickly cordoned off as a massive police presence descended on the store.

Munson Healthcare confirmed via Facebook that 11 victims were rushed to Munson Medical Center for treatment. “As a result, our Emergency Department is experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients,” the hospital wrote.

The conditions of the victims have not been disclosed. Hospital staff are reportedly working through the night to assess the full extent of the injuries.

As of Saturday evening, authorities had not released information on a suspect, and no motive has been confirmed. Michigan State Police posted on X (formerly Twitter) that they were “investigating a multiple stabbing incident,” but did not elaborate on whether the suspect had been apprehended or was still at large.

“We’re asking the public to avoid the area while we secure the scene and continue the investigation,” said Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Houghton in a brief statement to local reporters.

Traverse City, a popular tourist destination known for its cherry festivals and beaches, has rarely seen violence on this scale. Local residents are reeling from the shocking attack.

“This isn’t the kind of place where something like this happens. We’re devastated,” said longtime resident Glen Taylor, who arrived at the Walmart minutes after the incident. “This town is going to be shaken for a long time.”

Walmart has not yet issued a formal statement. Newsweek has reached out to Walmart, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State Police for further comment.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow as authorities release additional information.

  1. Democrat controlled states always seem to have lots of targets since people are not usually allowed to have a weapon to defend themselves!

  2. If Republicans didn’t make it acceptable to act like barbarian lunatics we wouldn’t have vicious armed attacks happening in the first place.
