A 24-year-old Russian actress was tragically swept to her death by a massive wave while practicing yoga on a stunning rock ledge in Thailand.
Kamilla Belyatskaya was calmly meditating on a pink mat at the Lad Ko Viewpoint on Koh Samui when disaster struck. In seconds, a giant wave crashed over her, dragging her into the choppy Gulf of Thailand.
Witnesses watched in shock as Kamilla, who had been enjoying the breathtaking view, was suddenly pulled from the rocks by the powerful surge. “We saw her sitting there for a long time. Then, I turned away for a moment, and just like that, she was gone,” said Irina, a horrified onlooker, speaking to Russia’s Rossiyskaya Gazeta. “Her boyfriend was higher up, and we rushed to call for help.”
The scene was heart-wrenching. Kamilla was seen struggling in the water, screaming for help as she tried desperately to stay afloat.
Her pink yoga mat, which had been left on the rocks, was soon seen floating away with the current. Despite rescue teams arriving within 15 minutes, efforts were delayed as a storm forced the cancellation of water rescues.
Kamilla, from Novosibirsk, Russia, had visited Koh Samui many times and had posted about how much she adored the island.
Just days before the tragedy, she shared on social media, “Samui is the best place on earth. This rocky beach is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Thank you, universe, for letting me be here. I’m so happy!”
Red flags had been raised in the area warning of dangerous conditions due to the monsoon season. The viewpoint, while not a swimming area, is known for its stunning views—and deadly waves.
“The victim may have been caught off guard by the unexpected surge,” said Chaiyaporn Subprasert, head of the Samui Rescue Centre.
Kamilla’s body was recovered days later, nearly a mile from where she was swept away. The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of how quickly nature can turn deadly, even in the most serene of settings.
