A Thanksgiving gathering in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, turned deadly when a long-standing noise dispute between neighbors erupted into violence, leaving a 72-year-old grandfather dead.

Hureleyon McLean, a beloved father and private bus driver, was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon inside his Somerset Drive apartment complex, just as he and his family prepared to celebrate the holiday.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, McLean went downstairs around 3:30 p.m. to confront his neighbor, who had complained about loud music coming from McLean’s unit.

An argument quickly escalated. Within moments, the neighbor pulled a gun and fired a single fatal shot, leaving McLean lying face down in the hallway.

“I heard the gunshot—‘boom’—and I just ran to the door,” McLean’s wife, Rose, recounted to WSVN. “I saw my husband lying in a pool of blood.”

Rose described a chilling encounter with the alleged shooter, who remained at the scene, gun still in hand.

“He wasn’t sorry. He just stood there looking at me,” she said, her voice shaking. “I went up to him and asked, ‘Why did you shoot my husband?’ He told me, ‘If you don’t shut your mouth, you’ll be next.’”

The loss has left the McLean family shattered. Hureleyon, known for his gentle demeanor and love for music, was a father of two and a grandfather.

“Anywhere he went, I was with him,” Rose shared. “We were a team. Losing him like this is unbearable.”

Outside the apartment, a prayer circle formed. Friends, neighbors, and members of McLean’s church gathered to offer support.

Tracy McCloud, the family’s pastor, led the group in prayer, reflecting on the senseless loss.

“It’s heartbreaking how we’ve reached a point where life is no longer valued,” McCloud said. “Who would have thought a day meant for gratitude would end in tragedy?”

The unnamed suspect, who remained on the scene, was detained by police. He reportedly claimed the shooting was in self-defense.

Authorities confirmed that the case will be referred to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, which will decide whether charges will be filed.

Lauderdale Lakes, located 32 miles north of Miami, is known for its tight-knit community. Residents expressed shock and grief over the incident.

“This isn’t something you expect here,” a neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “It’s just a noise complaint. No one should lose their life over that.”

For now, the McLean family is left mourning a life taken too soon, as they await justice in a case that has left a community reeling.
