Driver Smashes into Crowd During Parade in Louisiana

A vibrant cultural celebration turned into a scene of chaos and sirens after an alleged drunk driver barreled into a crowd at a Louisiana parade, leaving more than 20 people injured in a shocking incident that stunned attendees.

The terrifying moment unfolded Saturday during a Lao New Year celebration, where families had gathered to enjoy music, dancing, and tradition — before it all spiraled into panic.

Authorities say the driver, who has not yet been publicly identified, is now in custody. The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the crash is not believed to be intentional, but the damage was already done.

At least 13 victims required immediate medical transport, with 11 taken by ambulance and two airlifted due to the severity of their injuries. Officials say some of the wounded are in serious condition.

Videos circulating on social media captured the aftermath — people sprawled on the pavement, bystanders rushing to help, and a blue vehicle sitting at the center of the devastation.

The annual Lao New Year festival, which began Friday and was expected to run through the weekend, is known for its colorful displays and tight-knit community turnout. Earlier livestreams from the event showed smiling crowds, dancers in traditional attire, and floats moving through the streets — a stark contrast to the horror that followed.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry responded shortly after the incident, saying he and his wife are “praying for all those affected” while thanking first responders for their rapid response.

As investigators work to piece together exactly what happened, questions remain about whether the festival will continue as planned.

For now, what was meant to be a joyful celebration has been overshadowed by a sudden and deeply unsettling tragedy.
