Prince Harry’s battle against the press just took a jaw-dropping turn — because the very court case meant to hold tabloids accountable is now exposing his own eyebrow-raising messages.
In a twist few saw coming, a series of flirty texts between the Duke of Sussex and a female reporter were revealed in a London courtroom, painting a very different picture from the one Harry previously described under oath.
The messages, exchanged with Mail on Sunday journalist Charlotte Griffiths more than a decade ago, show a surprisingly playful — and at times intimate — side of the royal, complete with nicknames, inside jokes, and references to “movie snuggles.”
And yes, it’s all now part of the official record.
The explosive material was presented on March 31 during closing arguments in Harry’s lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Limited, the publisher behind the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. Harry has accused the company of unlawful information gathering, including phone hacking and the use of private investigators.
But the defense introduced the messages to challenge Harry’s earlier claim that he barely knew Griffiths and cut off contact once he realized she was a journalist.
Instead, the texts suggest something far more ongoing.
According to court documents, the pair connected on Facebook in 2011, with Harry even handing over his private phone number. They moved in the same social circles and attended parties together — including a memorable countryside gathering that clearly left an impression.
“What a fun weekend of naughtiness,” Griffiths wrote in one message, calling the prince “Mr Mischief” and joking about their antics.
Harry didn’t exactly shut things down.
“It was without doubt the best of those weekends,” he replied, reminiscing about the party and joking about his new nickname. He even vented about royal duties, complaining about having to make polite conversation at charity events the following night.
The tone only got more personal from there.
In later exchanges, Harry called Griffiths “sugar,” joked about drinking her under the table, and admitted he missed their time together — including a line that’s now making headlines: “Miss our movie snuggles!!”
At one point, he even gave her a heads-up that he’d be “off comms” due to military training, signing off with multiple kisses.
The messages appear to stretch well into 2012, with Griffiths testifying that the last time they saw each other socially was at a party where Harry stayed up all night before attending Trooping the Colour the next morning.
All of it stands in stark contrast to Harry’s earlier testimony, where he claimed he cut off communication almost immediately after learning Griffiths worked for a newspaper.
Now, that contradiction could carry serious weight.
The case — one of several Harry has brought against British media organizations — is now in the hands of Judge Matthew Nicklin, who will decide whether the publisher engaged in illegal newsgathering tactics.
But regardless of the final ruling, one thing is clear: the courtroom drama has already delivered a bombshell of its own.
And this time, the headlines are about Harry himself.
