The soft rock era just lost one of its most iconic voices.
Darrell “Dash” Crofts — one half of the legendary ‘70s duo Seals & Crofts — has died at the age of 87, leaving behind a timeless catalog that defined an entire generation of easygoing, feel-good music.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed Thursday, March 26, by longtime producer Louie Shelton, who paid tribute to Crofts in an emotional message, calling him his “brother” and sending prayers to his family and fans. According to reports, Crofts passed away due to complications following heart surgery.
For millions of fans, Crofts wasn’t just a musician — he was the unmistakable voice behind hits like Summer Breeze and Diamond Girl, songs that still echo across radios, playlists, and memories decades later.
Born in Cisco, Texas, Crofts showed musical talent early, picking up piano as a child before moving to drums in his youth. His life changed forever when he crossed paths with Jim Seals — a partnership that would go on to shape the soft rock sound of the 1970s.
After early years playing together in bands, the duo officially became Seals & Crofts in 1969. What followed was a string of smooth, melodic hits that stood apart from the harder rock dominating the era. Their breakthrough album, Summer Breeze, turned them into household names, while their unique blend of spirituality and laid-back sound carved out a lane all their own.
Crofts once described their music as something that couldn’t be boxed in — not quite rock, not quite religious, but deeply personal. That authenticity became their signature.
Over the years, the duo racked up gold and platinum records, earned Grammy nominations, and released more than a dozen albums. Even after briefly parting ways in the 1980s, they reunited multiple times, proving their chemistry never faded.
Tragically, Crofts’ passing comes just a few years after the death of his longtime partner Jim Seals, who died in 2022 at 79 — marking the end of an era for fans who grew up with their unmistakable sound.
Still, the music lives on.
From breezy summer afternoons to nostalgic road trips, Dash Crofts helped create the soundtrack to simpler times — and that legacy isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Loved their Songs….RIP
Fortunately, enjoyable music is eternal.
R.I.P. & condolences to the family.
