Panic ripped through a packed Florida golf tournament after a young girl was struck and briefly trapped under a moving golf cart — turning a routine day on the course into a terrifying scene.
The shocking incident unfolded Saturday, March 21, during the 2026 Valspar Championship at the Copperhead Course inside Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida.
According to tournament officials, the child was hit near the 15th hole by a golf cart that was transporting spectators around the course.
Witnesses say the situation escalated quickly.
The girl was knocked down and pinned underneath the vehicle, triggering immediate chaos as fans and staff rushed toward the scene.
Golf Channel reporter Smylie Kaufman, who was covering the group of Brooks Koepka and Danny Walker, described the moment as “very scary,” noting the child was stuck under the cart before being freed.
Koepka, a five-time major champion, didn’t hesitate.
He stepped off the course mid-round, crossed the ropes, and went straight to the injured girl.
“Brooks Koepka went underneath the ropes to talk to the girl and comfort her,” Kaufman said during the broadcast.
Medical personnel quickly surrounded the child as play came to a halt for several minutes.
Despite the alarming visuals, officials later said the cart was moving slowly — and the outcome could have been far worse.
After evaluation, the girl was reportedly not seriously injured.
“She had not sustained any major injuries,” a tournament spokesperson said, adding that she was able to leave with her family shortly after the incident.
Still, the close call left players shaken.
Koepka addressed the incident after finishing his round, clearly rattled by what he witnessed.
“I felt terrible,” he said. “From everything we’ve heard, she’s okay, and that’s what matters most.”
But he didn’t sugarcoat it.
“It’s unfortunate. It shouldn’t have happened,” Koepka added. “I know she’s probably scared. I just felt for her in that moment.”
The frightening accident briefly disrupted play and raised questions about safety protocols involving spectator transport vehicles at major golf events.
Meanwhile, Koepka’s round took a hit as well.
The former major champion carded a costly double bogey on the 16th hole, leaving him well off the lead heading into the final stretch.
“I’ve got a lot of ground to make up,” he admitted.
But for a few tense minutes on Saturday, the leaderboard didn’t matter.
All eyes were on a young fan — and a moment that could have ended in tragedy.
