Whoopi Goldberg just dropped a straight-up jaw-dropper on live TV — and her co-hosts didn’t know what hit them.
During The View on March 18, the conversation turned to the idea of fantasizing about being single, sparked by an article about someone in a happy relationship who still misses the “casual flings” era. Whoopi, 70, took that setup and turned it into a headline-making confession.
With a sly grin, she reminded everyone she’s single — then casually announced her approach to dating isn’t exactly candlelight and commitment.
“Yeah, I bar hop, I go hang, and I do hit and runs when I need it,” she said, making it crystal clear she’s not looking to be anyone’s wife… or anyone’s responsibility.
Whoopi doubled down, telling the panel she loves the freedom that comes with not being tied to anyone. No check-ins. No explanations. No obligations. Just doing what she wants, when she wants.
Her co-hosts reacted in their own ways — and the contrast was hilarious.
Sarah Haines admitted she doesn’t miss the “effort” of flings or going out hunting for attention, saying the best part of being single wasn’t dating at all — it was the ability to do whatever she wanted without reporting to anyone.
Sunny Hostin, now an empty nester, said she gets her own taste of “single life” whenever her husband is traveling — walking around the house in caftans, jazz playing, sipping wine, and living like she’s the main character.
But Whoopi’s confession wasn’t a one-time shocker.
Back in December 2024, she made waves with a similar statement, saying she prefers casual hookups because she has zero interest in a committed relationship.
And if anyone’s wondering why she’s so firm about staying unattached, her relationship history explains a lot.
Whoopi has been married three times — with marriages ending in 1979, 1988, and 1995 — and she also had a high-profile early-’90s romance with Ted Danson that turned into a major Hollywood scandal at the time.
These days, though, Whoopi isn’t selling fairy tales.
She’s selling freedom — and she’s not shy about how she spends it.
